Ingredients for the method of making strawberry shortcake:

  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 packs of fresh strawberries
  • Whipped Cream Frosting:
  • 1 teaspoon gelatin
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ½ cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

How to make strawberry shortcake:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and install a rack in the middle of the oven. Grease 2 (9-inch) cake pans with vegetable spray. Line the bottom of each mold with a circular piece of parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together, 3 times. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until boiling. Remove the pot from the heat, then add the vanilla and lemon extract.

3. In a separate mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar until pale yellow, smooth, and doubled in volume.

4. While whisking, add the hot milk mixture. Add flour mixture, stirring. Spread the mixture on the prepared cake pans and bake for 15 minutes, or until golden, and until the center of the cake springs back when gently pressed with a finger, and until you test the cake for doneness with a toothpick and it comes out clean. Place the molds on cooling racks until cool. Slide the tip of a knife around the sides of the cake to make it easier to slide out of the pan. Take them out of the molds.

5. For whipping cream: In a medium bowl, mix gelatin with ¼ cup cream. Let it rest for 5 minutes, then place the bowl over hot water until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool until lukewarm.

6. During this time, in a mixing bowl, whisk the cream until slightly thickened. Add sugar and vanilla, then beat until smooth texture.

7. Pour ½ cup of the whipped cream into the gelatin mixture, then add the rest and continue mixing.

8. Wash the strawberries and dry them. Choose the best 12 seeds, then remove the remaining stems and cut them into slices. Lay strawberry slices on top of one of the cake pans, then spread a ½ inch thick layer of whipped cream on top. Put the other cake mold on top of the cream. Spread the remaining whipped cream frosting over the entire cake. Garnish the face with whole strawberries.
